Today we went to the voodoo temple in Ansefoleur. I was a little nervous and there was definitely a heaviness there. But mostly, it made me angry. We saw the pond, if you can call it that, where people bathe for prayer, complete with a layer of mint green scum. Precious people, who God calls the master piece of His creation, trying to cleanse themselves in this mess. This is not what God intended for us. At the temple, a woman begged and pleaded with the idol to bring her husband back to life. How much would it cost? What can I do? She begged, and yet the hope of resurrection was just out of reach. This is not what God intended for Haiti.
And then we went to the revival in Berger. And with the church, we sang songs and we praised God. And it is in this little lean-to with palm frond walls that God will push back the darkness. And it is by the faith of these people and the Spirit of our God that He redeems His creation. In the faces of those who have nothing, who walk an hour and a half, carrying clean water to their families, who do not have enough to eat, it is in these faces that I see the power of God. The Kingdom comes through song and praise and love. How beautiful is the Bride! How great is our God!
