Hannah, Chelsea, and Emily’s Journey in Haiti… so far

Yesterday we started our morning with preparing 150 peanut butter sandwiches and then loading onto the bus and heading to St. Augustine church in the Far West. Once arriving we told the children at the church to tell their friends to come because we were going to put on a mini vacation bible school for the children in the village. We sang many songs and we were even taught a song in Creole to sing along with them. We preformed the Bible story Noah and the Ark and then passed out peanut butter sandwiches. God’s grace was shown when we were surprised by some women of the congregation who gifted us with lunch. We were blessed that it was still early in the day and we were able to travel to Salines Mayette, the large orphanage run by NWHCM. All three of us were so excited to see the children with whom we have formed bonds with during previous trips to Haiti. We traveled back to Beauchamp to stay the night and get some much-needed rest for a busy next day. We woke early the next morning to sounds of donkeys, dogs, chickens and goats all bellowing to one another. After breakfast we headed to Salines Mayette again to have a fun filled day with the children there. We played in the large courtyard with many of the younger children with a parachute. They loved marching underneath it and chanting their favorite songs. We then spent some time with the teenage girls in their dormitory painting fingernails and sharing laughs. They loved getting their nails beautified. We then spent the remainder of our time with the children drawing with chalk, jump roping, and face painting. Before we left we gifted the orphanage with 172 toothbrushes. It was quickly time to leave and we had an emotional goodbye with all the children. It was a long bumpy road back to St. Louis-du-Nord, but we made it safely thanks to our awesome bus driver. We are happy to be amongst other ‘miscellaneous’ missionaries who have formed our own Team Pterodactyl. Looking forward to church tomorrow and the adventures that follow.
