How Great is Our God

My name is Liz Long and I came to Haiti with first Christian Church from Evansville, Indiana. This whole trip has been amazing and wonderful to see God at work in a variety of ways. Yesterday my team headed to the bay. There is an orphanage there for 3-6 year olds. Currently they have six kids in the orphanage. One of these six kids was born from a mother who had AIDS. Because of the medication she was given she had seizures so was then placed on other medication for those. The combination of these medications resulted in her becoming HIV negative but resulted in a delay developmentally. We were at the orphanage playing with the kids and about 30 more from the neighborhood when Natasha (the missionary there) mentioned she wished she could have a special needs preschool teacher come in and help her or give her some ideas of how to work with this little girl. It just so happened that God had a plan for one of the members of my team. Nancy, a preschool special needs teacher, was able to give Natasha some ideas of how to help this precious girl catch up with her peers. It is so amazing when you can totally see God at work making things happen at just the right time with just the right people.

Today before we returned to St. Louis part of our team went fishing with some of the locals in the most beautiful water you have seen. The others held a VBS for some of the local kids and packed the church with about 150 kids who got to hear about how much God loves them. After an eventful morning, we had a great time swimming in the ocean and enjoying lunch together. Then we piled like sardines into the back of this big truck for the two hour bumpy ride back. Once back we were given the responsibility to lead worship and do the evening devotions. The song that was chosen was “how great is our God”. And I have to say that song pretty much sums up this whole trip for me. How great is Our God? Greater than I can explain in words!
