Joy in Jelly Beans

Today Taylor and I brought lemon jelly beans to the baby orphanage. We got all of the children to sit around us and we passed them out. I suppose many of you can imagine the joy that would come to these children as they receive something so rare to them, but you cannot actually know unless you witness it.

Each one of them smiled with joy and we knew this way of life and the joy they could have over a jelly bean was unknown to us. One little boy kept his handful of Jelly Beans for at least 20 minutes. He ran up to everyone who came in to show them his new discovery and he leaped up and down unable to contain his excitement.

Many times when I visit the orphanage my heart aches for them and the heart aches they will have to face in life, but today was different. Today I realized that God has also blessed them, he has given them the ability to find joy and meaning out of a jelly bean. I think that often we look at a problem and only see the negative in it but today God has shown me to see it in another light. He has shown me that it’s the troubled times that he shows his power and love. He is a great God and God with a greater plan than anyone could ever know.
