Arrived in St. Louis du Nord

For the past two days, our group of 40+ has been traveling to reach our current location, St. Louis du Nord, Haiti. The adventure to get here was long, but also fun! Most of us took one or two flights from our city of origen to either Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. We stayed overnight, and woke up at 3:30am to catch our 6:20am flight to Port au Prince. From there, we flew in groups of 19 in a high-wing turbo-prop plane to Port de Paix. Personally I love riding in small planes, so I found the ride quite enjoyable, despite some turbulence. Haiti is a gorgeous country. I quickly realized I need to throw away all of my preconceived notions and learn what I can first-hand before I form any more thoughts of what Haiti is like and what Haiti is all about. The 45 minute plane ride from Port au Prince to Port de Paix gave me a wonderful time to reflect and pray about the coming week. What will we see? What will we learn? How can we best serve Haitians and Haiti, and what will we learn about God? What will we learn about ourselves? I look forward to the adventure. We finally landed on the dirt runway at Port de Paix…from there, we took an hour or so bus ride to St. Louis du Nord. We set up the eye clinic and surgical suites. We had an absolutely delicious dinner, a short devotional, and then everyone was tired and decided to go to bed. So…at this point, my mind is filled with questions. Perhaps later in the week I’ll have answers. One thing is certain: this week isn’t about us, it’s about God, His glory, and His name.
